When administering any vaccine, the dosage you use matters. That statement holds true when administering flu shots at corporate wellness events.

That’s because all vaccines—the flu shot included—are made with the dosage in mind. They’re manufactured to be administered in a particular dose.

At our flu shot events, we use the VanishPoint® syringes. These syringes have automated needle retraction to help reduce your risk for exposure to the contaminated needle. They’re a single-use syringe that can only be used with the attached needle. 

We send 1mL, 1-inch needle VanishPoint® safety syringes and 3mL, 1 1/2-inch needle VanishPoint® safety syringes to events with multi-dose vials of vaccine. You can easily tell the difference between the two sizes of VanishPoint® syringes by looking at the end of the plunger. The 1mL, 1-inch needle VanishPoint®safety syringe plunger ends are clear. The 3mL, 1 1/2-inch needle VanishPoint® safety syringe plunger ends are orange. When manufacturer filled syringes are used, we send 1-inch and 1 1/2-inch safety needles. 

For the most part, VanishPoint® syringes work like any other syringe you’ve used. We thought we’d give you a little overview, though, so you know exactly what to expect.

As a wellness professional, you probably have some type of HIPAA training in your back pocket. Working with us—and reading our manual—means you’ve learned what Protected Health Information (PHI) is, and why it’s important.

A wellness event can be a sensitive situation for participants who are concerned about privacy. You can be as well-trained as anyone, and those people will still have concerns.

Here at TotalWellness we promote what we call a “Speak Up!” environment. That means we want to address potential problems as they occur, but we need to be informed of them.

Ultimately, we would rather take the time and address potential issues than to put any participant at risk. That statement is true even if it means dealing with delays or extra work on our end. Participant safety is a priority.

That’s why we’re asking you to speak up! Our “Speak Up!” environment means a few different things for you as you work TotalWellness events.

Some wellness event stations require wellness professionals to wear gloves for sanitary and safety purposes. At TotalWellness, those include events like:

• Fingerstick blood tests
• Venipuncture blood draws
• Flu shot administration

The gloves you need for each of these procedures will be sent with the supplies the primary contractor will be bringing to the event. TotalWellness will supply medium-sized gloves. If you need a size other than medium, you’ll have to bring your own.

We get loads of questions about the workload in your area—yes you. All of you. We’re always getting questions and concerns from people who just want more wellness work and wonder, “Why isn’t there work near me?”

Well guess what. We love those questions! Because we know it means you love working with us. Your enthusiasm for the work and willingness to be involved is really an awesome thing.

That being said, our poor schedulers can’t always handle the question load that comes in—especially when a lot of the questions are so similar. So we thought we’d address that question once and for all, right here on the blog.

In order to maintain consistency among our events and promise professionalism to our clients, TotalWellness requires all of our contracted health professionals to adhere to a specific dress code.

Ultimately, we want our contractors to exude a healthy, positive and professional attitude when working our events. Each piece of the dress code aids in that overall appearance.

If you’re the primary contractor on any event, you’ll be the one receiving shipments from TotalWellness. If you’re the only one working an event, that automatically makes you the primary, so keep that in mind!

TotalWellness will ship you all of the supplies you need for the event. Those supplies are your responsibility while they’re in your possession.

We ship everything through FedEx, and we’ll let you know as soon as we generate a shipment that’s headed your way. We try to utilize the following schedule for our shipments, but if you haven’t received a shipment or email from us within three business days of your event, you need to contact our shipping team.

Positivity is a key part of what we do here at TotalWellness. And there’s good reason behind it.

A positive outlook makes all the difference in a healthy lifestyle. Positivity is not only associated with better mental health, but with greater resilience and therefore better physical health.

When it comes to corporate wellness, a positive outlook also aids in the development of intrinsic motivation. This type of motivation is closely aligned with a person’s internal beliefs and desires. Because of that internal nature, it’s a motivation that leads to more long-term change.

Hopefully you’ve seen our recent updates to our manual of policies and procedures (if you haven’t, please go take a look!). To be sure you’ve taken enough time to consider our new policies, we just wanted to touch base about how important they really are.

We know what you might be thinking. It’s easy to think all healthcare policies are the same, and that because you work with a couple different vendors, you’re covered. It’s even easy to think that because you’ve renewed your licensure, you’re good to go. You might even think that because policies have changed, you’ve done something wrong and are being punished or reprimanded.

The truth is this…an updated manual doesn’t mean we don’t trust you, and it doesn’t mean you’re not doing well.
