To be successful in the world of corporate wellness, there are certain essential characteristics that one must possess to improve employees' well-being, plan programs, maintain a positive attitude, encourage healthy behaviors, and build strategy.

While there are probably a lot of must-have skills, here's our top six:

Communication skills.
Great communication skills are critical in being effective with employees and in getting support from upper management. Plus, you'll need to break down information into simplistic terms that everyone can understand.

Analytical thinking.
From reviewing health risk assessments to deciphering medical insurance claims, you'll need to identify trends and connect the dots to develop solutions.

Resiliency.
You are going to get knocked to the mat, how quickly you can recover from and adjust to misfortune or change often acts as the barometer of your personal image and your wellness program.

Attention to detail.
Fast-paced work environments and variety of tasks can often make it a challenge to pay close attention to the details of every element of your job performance. Consistent attention to the small details produces excellence.

Creativity. To say that today's employees are inundated with information is a radical understatement. You'll need to know your audience to create messages that really resonate. Learn to be creative.

Relationship builder. The core of our profession is the ability to build rapport and create change among employees. A wellness manager needs to empower people to go after their wellness goals.
