7 Steps to Set Yourself Up for a Healthy Workday (Before It Even Starts)

Death_to_stock_photography_Wake_Up_5.jpgA healthy life is ultimately built up of small healthy choices that you make all day long. As your workday drags on, though, it can be really tough to keep making those healthy choices.

You can set yourself up for success by starting your day with a healthy morning. If you adopt some healthy habits right from the get-go, you’ll be more likely to build on that momentum—which means you’ll be more likely to make healthy choices all day long.

Here are a few steps you can take for a healthy morning. Feel free to move them around, or adjust them to your morning schedule. In the end, your health is about you and the habits you can fit into your daily routine.

Step 1: Get Up Early

The earlier you wake up, the less rushed you’ll feel getting ready for work. You’ll start your day on a stressful foot if you roll out of bed, scramble to get ready and run to the car to leave for work. Make sure you allot enough time for a full night of rest! But also be sure to set your alarm early enough to have a healthy morning.

Step 2: Don’t Hit Snooze

The snooze button can be your best friend and your worst enemy. Many people hit snooze to capitalize on a few minutes more sleep. What they don’t realize, though, is that the extra, interrupted snoozing is not sleep that’s actually refreshing. In fact, it will probably make you more tired and groggy.

Step 3: Start Slow

Start your morning with something slow and calming. You might read for a few minutes, or do a short meditation. Maybe you want to tackle steps 3 through 5 together a do a short yoga workout. Just try to ease into your day. If you start the day feeling relaxed, but productive, that attitude will follow you throughout your regular schedule of events.

Step 4: Exercise

Exercise in the morning can be a great option because it helps you to get it out of the way. Many after-work workouts are skipped because life just gets in the way. If you take care of your daily workout as soon as you wake up, it won’t be hanging over your head or stressing you out. It also gets your metabolism and heart rate going right away.

Step 5: Stretch Your Muscles

When you wake up in the morning your body has been at rest for quite some time. That’s obviously a good refresher, but it can also make your muscles and joints a bit stiff. Rather than diving right into your daily activities, give your body a quick warm up. Do some light stretching to get things moving and ready to take on your workday.

Step 6: Eat Breakfast

Food is fuel for your body. Without it, you wouldn’t last long, and you certainly wouldn’t be able to be productive at work. Fuel your body right, right away in the morning. Make yourself a balanced, healthy breakfast. That will boost your energy, kickstart your metabolism and get your body ready for the day ahead.

Step 7: Pack Your Lunch

In most workplaces, the healthiest lunch option you have is to bring your own lunch from home. That takes a little bit of planning and preparation. As part of your morning routine, remember to pack yourself a healthy, delicious mid-day meal—and snacks if you think you’ll need the extra boost!

Your morning routine can either make or break the rest of your healthy habits throughout the day. Set yourself up for success by having a healthy morning.
