What is a Biometric Screening (and how are TotalWellness’ different)

Biometric Screening EventWe talk about biometric screenings all the time, but we know it can get confusing—especially when big words like ‘biometric’ are involved.

What is a biometric screening?

To make it a bit more simple, a biometric screening is essentially a quick health exam. It’s used to offer insight into your employees' overall health.

These biometric screenings conveniently take place at your workplace. Often they are paired with flu shots or part of a larger health fair. Our screenings usually measure these health factors:

  • Height & Weight measurements to calculate Body Mass Index (BMI)
  • Blood pressure
  • Waist circumference
  • Glucose (the amount of sugar in the blood)
  • Total cholesterol
  • HDL and LDL cholesterol
  • Triglycerides (the amount of fatty acids in the blood)

This type of event is an excellent idea for a few different reasons.

First, it can help you and your employees to evaluate your own health levels. This gives people an idea of where they’re excelling and what might need some improvement. It allows individual participants to learn about what’s going on in their individual bodies.

Second, health screening events give participants an opportunity to ask questions. Understanding and remembering all the details about health metrics can be difficult. The health professionals at each event are knowledgeable, as well as ready and willing to answer questions.

Finally, it gives you, as the employer, an idea of how your company is doing overall. By looking through the aggregate report of your biometric screening, you’ll be able to identify trends and address issues that affect a lot of your employees.

Biometric screenings are basically designed to easily provide your employees with information that can help them lead healthier lifestyles.

The TotalWellness Experience

The important thing to remember, however, is that not all biometric screenings are created equally. You probably use a vendor to host your screening event. It’s important to really do your research and find a vendor that suits your company.

Here are a few things you’ll find at a TotalWellness biometric screening event.

We provide qualified professionals. We have a network of over 6,000 health professionals that have gone through our screening process in order to be part of the TotalWellness team. We want to provide you with the best of the best when it comes to the people running your event.

We use positive messaging. Scare tactics simply don’t work. In order to initiate long-term change, we focus on positive messaging. This allows our biometric screenings to become something worth talking about, rather than just another burden.

We believe everyone is healthy. Yes, everyone. Every single person has some healthy habits in his or her life. We want to help you and your employees find those habits and build more just like them. These are the building blocks to a healthy lifestyle.

Biometric screenings are an important component of a comprehensive wellness program. All biometric screenings are helpful, but they’re not all the same. Be sure to do some research as you decide the best route to go for your company.
