What a Health Professional Wants You to Know about Biometric Screenings

Posted by Becky Squiers on Mon, Jun, 15, 2015

Our health professionals are really the experts when it comes to our events. This network of qualified individuals includes the people you see at your events. They know what works, what doesn’t work and what you need to keep in mind.Insight on Biometric Screening

We talked to a couple different Event Coordinators and our Director of Nursing, and the general consensus was this…you guys rock. Overall, everyone agreed that events run pretty smoothly for the most part.

We did manage to squeeze a few tips out of them. Keep these things in mind to help you and help us in the event planning process.

For Site Contacts/Event Organizers

  • Have the room ready and available. Try not to double book us in a conference room where there’s a meeting going on.
  • Remember to bring us some trash cans. Tables and chairs are usually a bit more obvious, but trash cans are easy to forget.
  • Have paperwork ready—preferably with enough copies for all of the participants.
  • Mention fasting in more than one form of communication. You won’t be able to get accurate results if your employees eat before a screening.
  • Set up with blood tests first so the sample can process while participants do the other metrics. That way they’ll be able to see their results after the other tests are finished rather than having to wait 7 or 8 minutes with nothing to do.
  • Communicate the following info to your employees so they know what to expect.

For participants

  • Remember to fast! You can have coffee or tea, but it has to be black. No cream, sugar or flavoring. Otherwise you’re getting stuck for no reason because your results won’t be accurate.
  • Relax. A health screening is nothing to be worried about. We’re on your side. We want you to feel good about your health. Please don’t be afraid of us.
  • Try to be on time. And especially try not to come when the event is ending.
  • Wear appropriate clothing for the tests that’ll be done. For example, if you’re getting a venipuncture blood draw, make sure your elbows are accessible.
  • Drink lots of water. It’s much easier to get a blood sample from you if you’re hydrated. And we know you don’t want to be stuck more than once!
  • You will get your fingerstick results at the event. Our counselors will go over them with you, so ask questions. That’s what we’re here for.
  • Read the specific instructions prior to coming to the event so you know if you need to fast, block out a certain amount of time, etc.
  • We shouldn’t need you for more than 20 minutes. It’s definitely worth your time to take a little break from work and come see us.

From our health professionals to you…keep up the good work! Remember these few extra tips as you get ready for your biometric screening event. Spread the word to your employees so we can all be on the same page on event day.
