The Non-Obvious Benefits of Working in Wellness

Posted by Becky Squiers on Wed, May, 20, 2015

Benefits of Working in WellnessWorking at on-site wellness events can be great. There are plenty of obvious benefits including:

  • Flexible hours
  • The opportunity to help others
  • The chance to travel
  • And, making extra money

A lot of these, however, you can also find in other jobs. So what makes wellness so special, so rewarding and so worth it?

You are helping people start a journey.

When you work corporate wellness events, you’re going to get to help participants take their very first steps towards a healthier lifestyle. Many people that take advantage of wellness events at work do so for the convenience. They likely aren’t already invested in their health. As a wellness employee, you’re tasked with inspiring this investment and helping people begin. Their journey starts with you!

The field is inherently positive.

Alright—we’ll admit this is most accurate when you view the field through the TotalWellness lens. We run our wellness events differently than most other companies. Rather than focusing on what’s wrong with a participant’s lifestyle, we focus on what’s right. We want to help employees everywhere find their healthy habits so they can create more.

You’re a huge part of this positive environment, and trust us when we say—it’s contagious. After you spend all day working an event in your positive pants (not a real thing—but it would be cool!), that positivity will follow you home. The more events you work, the more your new positive outlook will seep into all aspects of your life. And how awesome would that be?!

You get to focus on people.

Some jobs say they focus on people, but have the concept a little backwards. But if you work in wellness, you will always truly be focused on people. Corporate wellness doesn’t work without looking at the health of each individual employee.

As an on-site wellness professional, this gives you such an exciting opportunity to meet some awesome people. You’ll spend your days talking to and interacting with participants. As you meet more participants, you learn more stories. As you learn more stories, you make more relationships. As you make more relationships, your job begins to enrich your life with meaning and entertainment in every corner.

No two days will be the same.

No two people are the exact same. No two employees have the same story. No two participants are on the same health journey. This makes your job incredibly exciting! You can’t predict who you’ll see at any corporate health event, which means your days are constantly changing and keeping you on your toes. You’ll never be bored!

So as a health professional working in wellness, there are obvious benefits to the work you do. There are also some not-so-obvious benefits. Who wouldn’t want a job where they can help start an excellent journey, stay positive, focus on people, and do something new everyday?! It’s a no-bainer really.

If you already work in wellness, keep doing what you’re doing. You rock! If you’re considering a job in onsite wellness, you can rock too. All you need to do is get started.

What’s your favorite part about working in wellness?
