Q&A With Our New Director of Nursing

Posted by Lisa Stovall on Mon, Jul, 19, 2021

FamilyMWe are excited to announce that Malia Pearson, RN, BSN, is the new Director of Nursing for TotalWellness.

She has a bachelor's degree in business and nursing. Malia has worked in a variety of health care settings, including inpatient, home infusion, and medical devices. Malia also assisted with COVID-19 shots and COVID-19 testing for our Omaha clients during this past year.

In a short Q&A, Malia shares her background and thoughts on joining the TotalWellness team.

Tell us about yourself.

I have been a nurse for 14 years, working inpatient at Nebraska Medicine, home infusion as a nurse liaison, medical device and nurse contracting. I’ve been married to my husband Brien for 17 years. We have three boys. Kalan is 13 years old, Brody is 11 and Jace 8. I grew up in Omaha, but have family from Hawaii, so we enjoy trips to visit whenever we are able!

What are you most excited about in your new role?

Health and wellness really starts at the office. I noticed right away TotalWellness practices what they preach. The office environment is very positive, everyone works well as a team to get events put together and completed successfully. I am very excited to join the TotalWellness team!

What lead you to become an RN?

I worked as a realtor for five years after obtaining my Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Nebraska in Omaha. I became interested in nursing, so I took the plunge to pursue this new career. I obtained my bachelor’s in nursing through the Creighton University Accelerated Nursing Program.

What are some ideas you have for our contractors that will move TotalWellness forward?

I think it is important to have good communication coming from the lead contractors prior to events, especially with new contractors. I’d imagine that communication can help ease any anxiety, as well as make flu shot and screening events more successful.

If you could speak with each contractor, what would you want them to know?

The Contractor Manual is a great resource to familiarize yourself with policies and procedures prior to events. I also encourage you to get certified in health screenings and flu vaccines prior to the upcoming busy season. That way you have the ability to work more events , and we have enough staff! I’m here to help in any way I can and look forward to this new role.

Welcome to the team Malia! Please let us know if you have any questions for Malia.
