You’ve heard us preach it time and again—positivity is important for employee wellness. You might be wondering how we landed on that message. Or even how you can use that information in your own wellness program.

We covered both of those questions and more on our recent webinar. If you missed the live showing, don’t worry! You can catch the recording below. If you're more of a reader, check out the slides here. Read on for a quick peek at what we discussed.

What’s the point of focusing on positivity?

There’s a boat load of research out there that suggests optimism carries a variety of benefits. Some of those benefits include:

  • Physical health benefits
  • Improved productivity
  • Stress management
  • Increased engagement
  • Career growth

You can learn more about each of these benefits by watching our webinar recording. You can also check out the research we’re drawing from in this ebook.

How does positivity apply to employee wellness?

Employee wellness is all about inspiring your employees to make healthy change. The key to making healthy change is to tap into a source of consistent motivation.

There are two different types of motivation that people use to bring about healthy change. The first is extrinsic motivation—meaning it comes from something outside of you. The second is intrinsic motivation—it comes from something internal or innate.

A focus on positivity instills a sense of intrinsic motivation in your employees. Check out our webinar recording to learn why that’s a better method for addressing employee wellness where you work.

What can you do to shift towards positivity?

Focusing on positivity is all about shifting the culture of wellness where you work. It might take some time, but it’s an important process for building an effective wellness program. Here are six great ways you can make that shift.

  • Use positive messaging
  • Seek out the good things
  • Celebrate strategically
  • Train for resilience
  • Be a resource for your employees
  • Take the attitude to heart

All of these things can help you create a culture that oozes positivity! Check out our webinar recording or download the slides to learn specific ways you can do each of these where you work.

We think positivity is really the only way to go. Optimism not only has some benefits automatically associated with it, but it addresses the challenge of healthy change in a way that works. Take the time to develop a wellness strategy that encompasses positivity as a key element.
