Eat. Move. Live. (A Breakdown of Our Wellness Program Philosophy)

Written by Robyn Whalen | Mon, Feb 27, 2017

When it comes to living a healthy and happier life, there are many conflicting messages out there that may confuse your employees or make them feel like a healthy lifestyle isn’t achievable. However, we want to help you make wellness simple, effective, and practical for your employees. To do this, we recommend three key pillars for employers to focus on: eat, move, and live.

Eat, move, and live are three pillars of focus that we believe will make a positive impact on your employees’ health and overall life. Employers should educate employees on the positive benefits of eating healthy, being physical active, and making healthy choices–for both the body and mind.

Nutrition and exercise combat risks for disease and obesity, while a focus on a healthy lifestyle reduces stress and boosts happiness. TotalWellness is launching an 18-week campaign dedicated to helping employees eat, move, and live a happy, full life. We will be including six weeks of helpful blogs and articles for each category to help employers educate and inspire their employees.

Here’s how we are breaking it down:

Eat

EAT focuses on positive nutritional choices and healthy eating. As we all know, nutrition plays a huge role in overall health. It’s a healthy habit that will help employees keep their health numbers under control as well as boost happiness and productivity.

Eating well at work can be tricky for your employees. Break rooms are often stocked with sugary and fatty snacks while lacking fresh fruit and veggies. Vending machines tempt growling stomachs in the afternoon, and ordering fast food to the office sometimes seems easier than packing a healthy lunch–but it doesn’t have to be this way!

Our goal for EAT is to help employers encourage healthy eating habits and make eating well achievable at work. We will provide ideas and recipes to show just how beneficial and delicious eating well can be.

Move

MOVE focuses on living a physically active and healthy life. Regular exercise is effective at managing body weight and lowering blood pressure. There are many benefits that come with a physically active lifestyle, and it can really improve your employees’ lives.

One main problem is that many employees feel that they don’t have enough time in their hectic schedules to exercise regularly. We would like to show them that regular exercise can be practical. The availability to move and exercise at work removes many of the barriers to regularly exercise.

Our goal for MOVE is to help give employers and employees ideas on how exercise can be achievable at the workplace and get your employees moving!

Live

LIVE focuses on creating a happy, holistically enriching life. Health goes beyond what your employees eat and how they move. Many lifestyle factors play a role in your employees’ overall health and wellness. For example, factors such as stress, financial wellness, mindset and social relationships all contribute to your employees’ mental, social, and emotional health.

Believe it or not, the environment in which your employees work actually plays a huge role in their overall wellness. Work can be stressful, so it’s important that your employees know how to handle stress in a healthy way. Employees need encouragement to go beyond healthy eating and exercising to achieve a life of holistic wellness.

Our goal for LIVE is to help employers promote the idea of holistic wellness. We will provide tips and tricks to help your employees thrive through creating a positive work environment and promoting healthy lifestyle choices outside of the workplace.

First up in our campaign is EAT! So, for the next six weeks, our blog will be dedicated to helping your employees eat well and make positive nutritional choices.
